These figures highlight the challenges most Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries are currently facing. To become globally competitive, SSA countries must increase their manufacturing value-add and diversity of products, build their export capacity, and raise quality to meet international standards. Overcoming these challenges requires adoption of technology, establishing quality systems, closing the skills gap, and developing organizational and business processes.
